Don’t Break the Chain
This is based on a productivity technique purportedly used by the comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The story goes that he was asked by a young comic for tips, and was told that the secret was to write every day. He used a unique calendar system to force himself to write. It’s very simple and effective. For each day that you do your task (whatever that might be, writing, dieting, exercise, or some skill or habit you want to acquire/loose) you mark a big red X over that day on your calendar. After a few days you have a chain of X’s. The goal is to keep building the chain, making it longer and longer every day. As it gets longer you are less likely to break it, and so it helps reinforce the habit.
